Rural Roots Farmer Showcase 2019
Collette’s Kitchen is a Micro-Bakery situated with Lac Ste. Anne County. Good bread was hard to find locally so I started researching and learning about how bread used to be made.
Naturally leavened breads became my passion! Sourdough bread is not only delicious but is better bread and easier to digest as the fermentation process helps break down the wheat. I now have an AHS approved Kitchen on my property in Sturgeon Heights where I happily bake my breads.
Hill And Dale Farm
We are certified organic producers of high quality farm fresh garden produce of all kinds, beef products, and open-pollinated and heirloom seeds. The land has been in our family since 1914, generation to generation, caring for the soil and the animals sustained upon it. We respect the land and the soil because if the soil is not nutrient dense, the food grown in it will also not be healthy. Our farm soil is managed with this always in mind. We are chemical free and NON genetically modified. We grow Heirloom seeds, whose taste, production and resilience has been outstanding in short-season areas. This translates to better food for you and your family. We believe food should be accessible and affordable for everyone, and we endeavor to balance the cost of our labor with the needs of families for food always. Hill and Dale Farm has been around since 1914 when George Lamb homesteaded the land. It has remained in the family for 4 generations so far. A’Bunadh Seeds is our seed business part and we currently offer 500+ varieties of vegetable seeds, garden fruit plants, potatoes, Jerusalem artichoke and garlic. Our wild woods provide many medicinal mushrooms and other herb species from which we manufacture herbal tinctures for health. We make our own hot sauces and preserves that we also sell online with our black garlic. You can find them online at gardenofeden2010.wordpress.com, and hillanddalefarm.wordpress.com. Seasonal produce is available by contacting email@example.com for farmers market schedule or direct sales of produce.
We are the Doherty’s, we moved out to the Wildwood area in the spring of 2016, and established Stonepost Farms. Our vision for the farm was to have a farm that could support our family which is why Stonepost Farms carries such a diverse line of products. We share a passion for the outdoors, the ability to produce our own food in a natural and healthy fashion, and sustainability of the land. We hope to pass these values down to the next generation of farmers, which includes our kids. Stonepost Farms’ mission is to farm ethically, to produce nutrient dense food using ethical and regenerative farming practices that are both economically viable and sustainable for future generations. As a small family farm and we pride ourselves in constantly striving to produce the best products possible while improving the land in the process. As small, producers, every dollar you spend has an impact. We want to provide you with quality products at a fair price that you can feel good about. We focus on regenerative farming techniques, going beyond sustainability. Regenerative farming is a holistic approach to farming which allows us to better our land and the soils on which everything on the farm revolves around. Maintaining and increasing biodiversity across our farm is also a priority. Our farm already has diverse populations of birds, bees, and insects which benefit the farm as a whole and make a healthier landscape. We continually seek new opportunities to learn and adopt new best management practices, techniques and technologies. This allows us to better operate our farm and return the land and environment to a more natural state.

Janice Beaton Cheese Partners
Janice Beaton Cheese Partners is a Calgary-based company that sells a range of products, including a line of condiments, designed specifically to go with cheese. In addition, they sell cheese-based housemade products such as Mac & Cheese and Three Cheese Crisps, which are retailed in Calgary through Luc’s European Meats at the Calgary Farmers’ Market.
The condiments come in three flavours: Apple Rosemary Jelly, Pear Vanilla Jelly and Tomato Chili Jam. Although developed specifically for cheeses, they have a broad range of other uses as well. Think sandwiches, glazes for roast meats, egg dishes, and ice cream topping, just to name a few. The jellies are made with organic juices from the Okanagan Valley while the Tomato has the primo Italian San Marzano tomato as its base. The cheese crisps are made from three high quality cheeses, mixed in equal parts and baked to crispy perfection. That’s it, pure and simple and purely delicious!

rEAL bREAD aLBERTA
Real Bread is any bread made in a traditional way- with care, often by hand, with quality ingredients, and most importantly with time.
The idea behind Real Bread Alberta is to connect people - to connect bakers of all levels, to connect grain farmers with bakers and vice versa, and to connect with people who want to learn more and understand the importance of real bread.
My name is Kaelin Whitaker and I love sourdough. I love what it represents, I love to bake it, I love to eat it, I love to support the farmers behind it, I love to teach it, I love Sourdough, period.
Golby Farm market garden
We believe that getting high quality, nourishing, and most of all, wonderfully tasting produce is very important. Having grown up enjoying food straight from the garden, we want to share this wonderful experience with others. All our produce is grown and harvested by hand. Very little machinery is used, and no pesticides or artificial fertilizers are used. We use low environmental impact methods including netting, hand weeding, wood ash, compost, low tillage and others to ensure our produce is as organic as possible while disturbing the natural processes as little as possible. The Golby Family Farm is the original Golby land, settled by Bert and Fannie Golby, my great grandparents, in 1926. It has remained in the family, being passed down through the generations. It is located west of highway 764 just inside the County of Barrhead. Our operation includes (but is not limited to) the following produce: Beans, Lettuce, Beets, Onions, Broccoli, Peas, Carrots, Radish, Chars, Spinach, Corn, Squash, Cucumber, Tomato, Garlic, Potato.

Meet the Chefs PReparing the Meal
Rural Roots Farmer Showcase is thrilled to announce that our August 17th long-table outdoor culinary feast is in the very capable hands of the sibling duo, Brad and Cindy Lazarenko. For the last 20 years, their Culina Family of Restaurants has been front and centre in the Edmonton food scene. Brad was one of the first chefs to champion the use of local vendors and ingredients in the early 2000s so it is an honour to have them with us for this event. We can’t wait to see how they transform the bounty of our local farmers into a meal to remember. Their forte is classic comfort food that highlights Alberta’s rich cultural landscape and flavours. Of Ukrainian and Metis descent, the Lazarenkos effortlessly meld simple, classic flavours with a modern twist, transporting you back to your baba’s kitchen.
It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of our sponsors and partners we were able to host this event. Thank you to our sponsors and partners!
